Year 1 have been talking about having a positive mindset towards their learning. They have created superheros to help them with their learning.
So instead of saying....'I'm rubbish at this', year 1 are going to try and think.....'well what can I do to improve?'
Instead of saying......'this will do', try thinking.....'is this my best work?'
Instead of saying.....'I just can't do this', try thinking....'I am going to try a different strategy.'
Year 1 are learning about the Christian Festival of Harvest in their R.E topic this half term.
The children have been thinking about where are food comes from and which foods they enjoy the most.
The children learnt where cheese, tomatoes, melon, cucumber, chocolate, grapes, pineapple and crisps come from. Some grow on plants, some grow under ground and some are made from cows milk.
Year 1 enjoyed a Harvest picnic that reminded them to be thankful to God for our Harvest.
Clitheroe Castle School Trip
On Friday 23rd June 2017, Year 1 visited Clitheroe Castle. What a brilliant day we had! In the morning, Year 1 got to watch a Blacksmith making arrowheads for the knights in the castle. They also learnt how to play some castle games. Then we walked up lots and lots of stairs to the keep of the castle and we met a knight who showed us swords, armour and bow and arrows. We got to dress up as knights and even had a sword fight with a real knight. It was lots of fun! We learnt how to grind flour, cook a chicken over a fire and even dressed up in different costumes. Then we watched a sword fight between two knights and they let a cannon off. What a loud noise it was! In the afternoon, we got to explore around the castle grounds. We found a maze and had lots of fun trying to find the middle of the maze. Then we ended the day on the playground where we went on swings and climbing frames. Here are some photographs from our trip.
As part of our 'Seasonal Change' whole year topic in Science, we have been looking at a tree outside of Christ Church and discussing how it has changed during the different seasons. Back in Autumn and Winter, we sketched the tree and discussed how the tree had colourful leaves in Autumn but had no leaves in Winter. This week, we have sketched the tree in Spring and discussed how the tree has now grown new green leaves. Year 1 have really enjoyed sketching the tree in the different seasons. They are looking forward to sketching the tree again in Summer. Here are some photographs of us sketching the tree in Spring.
