Day 1 (29.06.20)

Good Morning Everyone!

We hope you had a lovely weekend. What awful weather we’ve had!  🌧

Unfortunately, it’s forecast to remain wet for most of the week  👎

Let’s hope for a return to sunny weather again soon.  🤞

Here are your tasks for today:

English Focus theme – Hygiene, Health and Heroes

[Scroll underneath this work for an alternative unit if you completed (part of) the above unit a few weeks back in school. The alternative unit is based on ‘Danny The Champion of the World’ by Roald Dahl. The rest of you are welcome to choose the alternative unit, if you think you would prefer it!]

! When following links online, parents should monitor that children are remaining on that page only and are keeping safe. Please note that some clips display unmoderated comments underneath, which may be considered inappropriate. Adult supervision is recommended to ensure these are not accessed.

Note: The clips and reading material today may contain content which is sensitive to your child, given the current climate. It is therefore advised that clips and web pages are watched, read and discussed together with an adult.

Watch and listen to the song: ‘Microorganisms’ by Peter Weatherall –making notes as you watch:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tHvHww1tNnA&list=RD1RIlYjxfFmo&index=2

After listening to the song, read this webpage about microorganisms and make notes:

www.theschoolrun.com/homework-help/micro-organisms

Now watch the short BBC clip: ‘Seeing the bacteria carried on hands’ here:

https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/clips/z34rkqt

Imagine that the government has asked you to create a leaflet for children about microorganisms and the importance of washing hands.

Using what you have read and watched today, design a leaflet suitable for children your age.

Make sure your leaflet is informative yet attractive to children by considering what vocabulary you use and thinking carefully about your layout. You may also want to include images/pictures to help present the information.

Extra information and ideas for how you may choose to present your leaflet can be found here:

Alternative Unit (Day 1 is Monday’s learning; Day 2 Tuesday’s etc.):

Maths:

This week we will be looking at some problem solving and data handling. For today’s task, please watch the video and then complete the activity below on multi-step addition and subtraction problems.

Year 5 - Week 8 - Lesson 1 - Multi-step addition and subtraction problems

This is "Year 5 - Week 8 - Lesson 1 - Multi-step addition and subtraction problems" by White Rose Maths on Vimeo, the home for high quality videos and...

* Please Note: In the answers document, question 6 is incorrect. The working out is correct but then the person has incorrectly put that Whitney has 150 and Amir 250. These should be Whitney has 250 and Amir 150 (as per their working out).

Well Done to Harris for pointing out this error! yes

This week, English and maths tasks will be posted as normal on the daily page, but all other activities will be posted under the clipboard ‘Additional activities’ icon. This page will be added to over the course of the week. You can work on any of the activities you choose on whatever day you choose to complete them.

Have a great day,

Miss Wood and Mrs Canipa

       🙂                     🙂

P.S.  Gracie has asked me to let you know that she misses you all very much!
