What is OPAL?
At Christ Church we are proud to be developing our outdoor play through the OPAL (Outdoor Play and Learning) programme. OPAL aims to improve opportunities for physical activity, socialisation, co-operation, coordination, resilience, creativity, imagination and most importantly — enjoyment!
The OPAL programme has been shaped over more than 17 years and successfully implemented in hundreds of schools across the UK, as well as internationally in Canada and New Zealand. In 2018, OPAL was awarded first prize in a European competition for the best active school programme.
The programme is built on the belief that children learn through play — and with around 20% of their school life spent playing (equivalent to 1.4 years of primary school), we want to ensure that this time is the best it can possibly be.
